Tom loved cars all of his life, and channeled it into the creation of Harper Auto Square, which encompassed 7 dealerships, 13 franchises, a body shop, and more classic cars than Tom would likely admit to. Tom served as president of the Porsche and Audi Dealer Councils throughout the 1980's and 90's.

Silent in his constant generosity, Tom loved to help people, especially those in recovery, and was so forgiving of failures. He created a culture at the dealerships that honored relationships above all else, and treated his employees as he did his family, with love and respect.   He constantly preached honesty, hard work, and doing the right thing would lead to success. Success was earned not given. He always sought the good in people and would give second, third, fourth, fifth, chances to people in his life. That culture of genuine care stands to this day and will be his legacy. His servant leadership stands as the example to all of the employees at Harper Auto Square. He touched the lives of so many people and never sought an ounce of credit.

Tom will be remembered for his mastery of April Fools jokes, love of Eric Clapton, his friendship with Bill W., and his great big smile that lit up the room.

Shannon started at the dealerships washing cars and has worked in every possible position in the dealerships. He has the same commitment to creating long term enthusiastic customers as his father, Tom.  Shannon is very active in the community as a member of Nucleus Knoxville, involved with East TN Boys and Girls Club and United Way, and on the board of Junior Achievement of East Tennessee and the Dogwood Arts Festival.  Harper is a proud sponsor of Ruthie's Fund, Knoxville Opera, and the Great Smoky Mountains Tremont Foundation.  He has also received an Automotive News 40 under 40 award and is an Introduction Knoxville alumnus. Â
